Jörg Sandmeier studied saxophone (under Andy Scherrer) and composition/arrangement (under Frank Sikora) at the Swiss Jazz School in Bern, graduating with a master’s degree in 2001. He continued his musical education in a number of workshops with saxophonists such as Dave Liebmann, Bob Mintzer and James Moody.
Jörg Sandmeier is a two-time winner of the “Chrysler Jazz Award” at Montreux Jazz Festival.
He has played saxophone in the Pepe Lienhard Orchestra since 2002, playing over 700 concerts, tours, and television appearances in Switzerland and abroad in this lineup. One of the highlights during this time has been the chance to accompany famous German singer and entertainer Udo Jürgens on six of his tours. Alongside his work as an instrumental teacher, as a freelance musician he is often hired to play in a very wide variety of productions such as musicals (Anything Goes, Don Camillo & Peppone at the St. Gallen theater or Saturday Night Fever at the Walensee-Bühne Walenstadt) and well-known Swiss bands (the Swiss Jazz Orchestra among them). He has also played the saxophone for Rolf and Gregory Knie’s circus shows Salto Natale and Ohlala Der Liebescircus since 2010.
Jörg Sandmeier has performed on stage alongside such musicians as Quincy Jones, Michael Bublé, Al Jarreau, Mick Hucknall, Udo Jürgens, Jerry Hey, Dave Grusin, John JR Robinson, Eric Harland, Lee Ritenour, Tom Kennedy, Patti Austin,​ José Carreras, James Ingram, Take 6, Greg Phillinganes, Jacob Collier, Jon Batiste, Curtis Stigers, Bonnie Tyler, Ronan Keating, Paolo Nutini, Herbert Grönemeyer, Xavier Naidoo, Sophie Hunger, Philipp Fankhauser, Hazy Osterwald, Ute Lemper, Roger Cicero, Paul Kuhn, Polo Hofer, Udo Lindenberg.
